DESCRIPTION:Sema of Hope\, the Ceremony of the Whirling DervishesOn Sunday\, December 14\, 2025 at 3:00 pm\, we will offer our annual public Sheb-i Arus “wedding night” Sema Ceremony\, in remembrance of Sufi mystical poet\, Hz. Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi\, who demonstrated through a lifetime of words and actions how Peace is possible on a Path of Love. This ceremony is prayer through movement and music\, inspired from tradition dating back over 800 years\, layered with rich symbolic representation of the human being’s spiritual journey. The event features the prayer movement of the Whirling Dervishes attuning to the music of the heart. Classical\, devotional Turkish music journey by trained musicians. \n \nAt Ballard Odd Fellows Hall\, 1706 NW Market St\, Seattle\, WA 98107 \n2:30pm Doors open for general seating. (please plan ahead as traffic/street parking can be challenging in the area on the weekend)3:00pm Doors close. Ceremony begins.\nPlease note: SEATING IS LIMITED. $25 ADVANCE TICKETS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. If we do not sell out online\, then any remaining tickets will be available at the door (cash only) for $30 General.  Students over 11 years old and Seniors (with ID) $20 at the door only on the day of the event.Seating is intimately close to the semazen (whirling dancers) and between attendees. *If you are having symptoms of illness (ie; sore throat\, runny nose\, coughing\, fever\, etc)\, please stay home and do not attend for your safety and others. SUMMARY:Whirling Dervish Ceremony Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Journey with us to the annual Sema of Peace\, the sacred ceremony of the whirling dervishes\, presented by the Mevlevi Order of America\, who are the followers of Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi\, the great 13th century mystical poet loved around the world. Sufis celebrate Rumi’s death day as his wedding day\, when he is united with the Beloved. On this day\, dervishes enact the death of the ego\, the opening of the heart\, and the lifting of the spirit to the One. This is a spectacular and deeply spiritual event\, a tradition for 800 years. Witnessing the dervishes turning in ecstasy can bring about a state of wonder\, gratitude and upliftment in the viewer. The Mevlevi Order of America musicians\, Mutrip\, will play classical and devotional Turkish music\, including musicians of the Society for Turkish Classical Music .   \n\n\n\nThose who purchase advance tickets and notify us will meet Munajat at 11:30am at a designated spot in Olympia to form carpools for the day trip to Seattle. The Sema is held at the Ballard Odd Fellows Hall\, 1706 NW Market Street.  We’ll gather and leave by noon for a 2:30pm event\, and return after the event or stay in Ballard for a restaurant meal first\, organized by carpool group. \n\n\n\nNote:  Ted Matin will be holding Dances at the Center for Spiritual Living as usual\, Sunday\, December 15\, 12:30 – 2pm. \n\n\n\nTickets  $25 at: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/6478021 \n\n\n\nAfter purchasing your ticket\, please email Munajat immediately at peacedances@olypeacedances.org for further organizing.
