SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Spiral Walk - meditation (no Dance today)
DESCRIPTION:December 21\, 2025  11am and 12:30 PM (see below)\nCenter for Spiritual Living \n3437 Libby Road NE\, Olympia WA \nThis month we will offer something different on the Winter Solstice!  In partnership with the Center for Spiritual Living\, we will conduct a Winter Solstice Spiral Walk\, a walking meditation that begins in darkness. Each person walks the spiral path made of evergreen boughs\, lights a candle from the central one\, and places their candle along the path on their return.  In this way each individual contributes to the growing of the light. It is an inspiration to witness the light pushing back the darkness throughout the ritual. The Spiral is accompanied by quiet live music. \nWhat else you need to know:  Enter the space quietly to help set a reflective mood.  For safety\, don’t wear long skirts and tie back long hair.  Candles will be provided for everyone. Children as young as 6 can enjoy participating in this.  Set an intention as you would for walking a labyrinth and remain open to the outcome. \nCSL will hold this meditation as their service from 11am – noon\, with music provided by Heather and Brent.  Dances of Universal Peace will hold the spiral in our usual time slot\, 12:30 -1:30\, with music provided by our musicians. \nCome alone or bring a friend!  Donation requested\, for CSL at the 11am and Dances at the 12:30pm session; no one turned away for lack of funds.   \nPrint and circulate this flyer:  Flyer \n  \n

SUMMARY:Pilgrimage of the Heart - silent retreat
DESCRIPTION:“As my words turn to silence\, your sweetness surrounds me.”~ Hakim Sanai \n“In a world of noise\, confusion and conflict\,\n it is necessary that there is a place of inner silence and peace; \nnot the peace of mere relaxation but the peace of inner clarity and love.” Thomas Merton\n\n— Is your spirit seeking a refuge where you can rest in peace and harmony\, connect with joy\, and expand inner clarity?\n— Are you longing to find a space where you can disconnect from all the external chaos and reconnect with the heart of Love?\n\nNur Mariam Simmons and Mujiba Berkana have created a sacred container where you may be held in the refuge of silence and the beauty of nature to rest in stillness and find peace and solace. Khilvats or retreats are spiritual pilgrimages that provide a person the opportunity to turn one’s gaze inward\, touch stillness\, and find the Divine within one’s heart. This time of deep listening and practice can open doors of personal transformation and healing.\n \nCome join this pilgrimage of the heart on the beautiful 120 acre NW rainforest campus of Pilgrim Firs Center.  Individualized programs will be created for each person by Nur Mariam or Mujiba based on your heart’s desire for taking this time to be on retreat.\n\n\nCost of $615 includes comfortable lodging\, vegetarian meals\, expressive art opportunities\, hiking trails around a peaceful lake\, a large labyrinth\, and daily personal interviews with Mujiba or Nur Mariam. Linens are available at an additional cost of $15. Deposit of $125 upon registration\, with full payment by Feb 16. Some partial scholarships available. Register at this link.\n  For more information\, contact:\n  Nur Mariam Simmons: adsimmons@comcast.net\n  Mujiba Berkana: berkana13@gmail.com\n\n  \nNur Mariam’s motivation to offer khilvat comes from the profound gifts she has received over the last 30 years of experiencing the connection with Divine Source while in solitude. As a Ruhaniat and Khilvat guide\, cherag and Spiritual director\, she invites you to discover the gifts awaiting you in the stillness of your Heart.\n \nMujiba encourages you to step into the heart of silence to nurture your inner life and relationship with the Real in the company of kindred spirits. She joyfully supports others as a Khilvat and Ruhaniat guide\, Siraj\, and Healing conductor\, and has been formally coaching since 2009.

SUMMARY:Give Peace a Dance at No Kings 3.0- March 28
DESCRIPTION:We’ll be dancing again for peace in public at the “No Kings 3.0” rally on Saturday\, March 28\, 2026 from 11:30am until 12:50pm when speeches on the stage begin.  The rally is listed as 11:30noon -3pm\, and if the spirit is moving\, we may also dance again after 1:30pm when the speeches are finished.  Dancing will take place near the Tivoli Fountain at the state Capitol; last time we were north of the fountain\, this time we’ll be south.   When we offered the Dances at June\, August and October rallies\, there were so many smiling faces to hear a message of love and peace in the context of politics! Wear yellow! \nWe could use a little help setting up — email us at peacedances@olypeacedances.org. \nThe protest rally is sponsored by Olympia Indivisible and the national 50501 movement. For more information see:   https://www.olympiaindivisible.org/.  At this site there is also an excellent “Code of Conduct” statement for rallies and marches. \n

We will be returning to N-Sid-Sen. The NW Conference of the United Church of Christ (the organization responsible for operating Camp N-Sid-Sen) made remarkable strides in restoring our trust regarding the way the facility is operated. \nThe dates available to us for next year were limited (and did not include the September dates we had for this year’s camp)\, so we are going to try something new. Next year’s dates will be June 9-14\, 2026. We won’t have to worry about the scorching heat and wildfire smoke we often experience in August. \nWe have secured commitments from two remarkable Dance Leaders\, both of whom have been with us before. We are very pleased to announce that Wilderness Dance Camp 2026 will be led by Gayan Long & Jennifer Friedman. \nAnd we have a new theme –\nRiding the Cosmic Wave:\nresting in the real\nbuilding spacious capacity \nDance Leader Bios\nJennifer Friedman\n\nOnce a touring singer/songwriter with two albums of original folk music\, Jennifer Friedman is a certified Dance leader and Mentor in the DUP tradition living in Colorado. \nShe founded and led the Longmont and Lafayette\, CO DUP Circles for 17 years and has been a long-time member of the Canyonlands\, Paonia\, CO and Puerto Morelos\, Mexico Dance Camp Teams. Jen led Virtual Peace Dances online for 2 years during the Covid pandemic while also working actively as a hospital chaplain at 2 Northern Colorado hospitals where she continues to this day. \nShe currently leads monthly DUP circles in her spacious backyard home in Longmont\, CO and at the Nyland Co-housing Community Common House in Lafayette\, CO. Jen leads frequently at retreats throughout the US\, four times a year in Colorado and in Mexico with her Dance mentor Bernie Heideman and Sky Roshay and Friends Shivadam Adam Burke and Douglas Stevenson. \nIn 2023\, after many years of organizational service\, Jen was honored to step into the role of Executive Director for Dances of Universal Peace North America. To learn more: www.dancesofuniversalpeaceNA.org \nJennifer has been personally transformed by the Dances and the direct transmission of Source energy and wisdom that they offer while simultaneously fostering a communal sense of the peace that is possible in our world. \nSheikh Gayan Gregory Long\n\nGayan is an acclaimed drummer\, composer\, leader of the Dances of Universal Peace\, spiritual mentor\, retreat leader\, and storyteller. He has dedicated his life to awakening human potential through music\, devotional practices\, pithy teachings\, and community celebration. Gayan is a direct disciple of Pir Shabda Kahn\, the lead teacher of the Sufi Ruhaniat International’s school of western Sufism. He has shared the Dances world wide and led retreats with some of the foremost spiritual leaders of our time. \nGayan began drumming at age eight and has been performing ever since. Gayan has drummed for\, and led\, kirtan for twenty years. He is an active leader and contributor to the vibrant Boulder kirtan scene. \nHe has also accompanied Wah!\, Girish\, David Newman\, Donna De Lory\, Dave Stringer\, Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band\, Saul David Raye\, Katie Wise\, Johanna Beekman\, Govind Das & Radha\, Robert Gass\, and Shiva Rae.
